Friday: Trees in my Garden

Today we’ve had a substantial amount of Proper Welsh Rain - we’ve waited weeks for it and it is soooooo welcome. Our reservoirs have been getting lower and lower. Some trees have shed their leaves weeks ago. For the first time in 46 years we’ve had cracks in the lawn and gaps opening between lawn and concrete paths … the Bramley cooking apple did a “June drop” this never happened before :-((
A celebrity mentioned on Twitter that everyone should grow a tree in the garden, got me thinking … I have quite a few trees in my relatively small garden.
I’m using my height (5ft) as a benchmark, taller than me is a TREE:
Natives: 3 Holly, Bay tree, Horse Chestnut, Ash, Oak
Fruit: Pear, 4 Apple trees (Bramley, Bardsey, James Grieve & Red Fruited one - label lost), 2 Damsons, Twisted Hazel, native Hazel, 3 Elderflower (2 x black leaved, 1 golden leaved)
Exotic: Cordyline, Ginkgo biloba,
Ornamental: Maple, 2 Buddleia - also have 5 in pots which I’ll plant this winter all being well, 2 Cotoneaster, witch Hazel, lilac, Hibiscus, Mahonia.
About 30 trees …
Took a photo of one of my “pot ponds” - today’s is the one where the watercress grows - got me thinking of our garden toads https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2870775100288795464 - don’t think I’ve seen them since last summer, maybe the rain will bring them out again?
Bank Holiday Weekend … think I’ll be keeping my head down and avoiding the crowds … enjoy yours! xxxx xxx xx
Stay safe & healthy & happy everyone :-)
Nos da pawb / goodnight all xx
