Running on Empty

Went through to Barrow this morning to meet Stu for a coffee and to pay for a mixer for the band. We presently hire our PA but have been thinking for a while about buying our own gear. I said I’ll stump up for a mixer and Stu is looking at getting some speakers sorted. I’ll just take a cut from each gig until the mixer is paid for. Vaughan at R&T Music has now achieved his long term goal of having me come into the shop, hand over money and leave with nothing (the mixer will stay in Barrow with the rest of the band gear).
The low fuel light had lit up on the way to Barrow but, because I wanted some things from Asda, I thought I’d try and get back to Kendal and top up there. And, as you can see, with a bit of gentle (by my standards) driving, I made it with a few miles to spare!
Unfortunately, having nearly emptied the tank, I hit the automatic pump cut off at £99, when there were probably still a couple of litres to go to fill it. I had noticed that some of the majors had shaved a penny off a litre this morning, but Asda had not followed suit - they are still the cheapest but do seem to drag their heels a bit when it comes to lowering prices. So I might not have maxed out the pump if they’d taken a penny off as well, but I had no choice other than to fill up because I’m off to Lancaster tonight. Which is twenty miles away…
