Big Log

Rainfall of biblical proportions this morning, and the river was in full spate. Out of the window of the gym we could see large branches sailing past, but it wasn’t until I went down to see how the new footbridge was coping that I spotted what looked like a small tree racing past. Must have been a bit of a shock for the guys working on the flood defence scheme a bit further downstream.
Considering the river was only a couple of feet off the top down on Waterside, I was surprised to see that the floodgates hadn’t been closed. Even though it had stopped raining by then, the run off from the fells will mean the river will remain high for a few more hours yet.
Of course, British weather being what it is, we had a gloriously sunny and dry afternoon. So much so that I even managed to get the lawns cut! I’m quite pleased to have done that as a lot more rain is forecast over the weekend. Luckily, we’ll be in Italy by then so I’m not going to worry about it.
Gradually ticking off all the things that we wanted to get done before setting off for the airport on Friday. Very unlike us not to be dashing around like headless chickens at this point in the holiday preparation process.
Update - just about to post this and the heavens have opened again. Feeling very smug about getting those lawns done now!
