Saturday: Sleeping Jaguar

The Belize Zoo is about half way between Belmopan and Belize City.  It’s described as the best little zoo in the Americas.  I haven’t seen many of the others but it is definitely excellent.  It’s small and only takes in animals that can’t survive in the wild, such as orphaned and injured animals, which means that every animal there is native to Belize.

We saw so many interesting animals, many of which we’d never even heard of, such as ocelots, tigrillos, coatimundis, gibnuts, tayras, not to mention tapirs, harpy eagles, crocodiles, arboutis.

Once home, we had a swim and then headed out for dinner.  It’s a very early culture here so places close by 8.30pm.  We went to Corkers, a bar run by a British couple.   It’s nearby and they have draft beer, and good food, so I think that’s definitely going to be a local haunt.
