Battle Of Britain
Out early for the Royal Airforce Association Battle of Britain Commemoration Service at King Charles The Martyr Church. On arrival I was shown to a pew quite near the front. I could see a picture on a stand of a young pilot, Squadron Leader Geoffrey Wellum AFC and was intrigued. I enjoyed the service, particularly the address which although was about the events of 1940 was interwoven with tales of the RAF’s current trials and tribulations.
The after service coffee and pasty were enjoyable as was the catch up with friends.
Home to prepare the Sunday Roast to eat late afternoon and while that was cooking I gave Joshua some long distance help with his first CV and covering letter.
Feeling a whole lot better but not quite completely over it.
Geoffrey Wellum won the DFC during the Battle of Britain and was one of the ‘Aces’. Born in 1921 he survived the war living until 2018. He is buried in Mullion in Cornwall.
