Derwent Reservoir

Derwent Reservoir

This place is great! After many years, and perhaps just before all the money ran out, they decided to open up the North side of the reservoir. This was formerly just agricultural land with sheep and cows only frequented by trout fishermen. It is now a lovely pathway that extends all the way around, across the dam and then down the other side. It is a mini version of Kielder reservoir. You can walk for miles now, along this lovely path around the water. The dam is pretty impressive as well, with a lovely view from the top over towards a lovely old viaduct in the distance.

It is a bank holiday, and we were almost the only people around! It is great being anti-social as it can be so peaceful. Our only company were the tiny lambs and some strange very furry cows that were black with a white stripe around their middle. It was very windy, but warm, and it was also strange as their was only one lone windsurfer on the water. Usually there are loads of dinghies and small boats but not today for some reason.

It is so nice when the weather warms up and we can get out and about.
