Boris The Spider

Our last day in Chester before heading home, and we actually found ourselves in the pleasant position of having nothing planned for the day. Taking advantage of a dry and sunny morning, we wandered up into town for a look around.
What struck me the most was the absence of people - which might have had something to do with the fact that it was half past ten in the morning but only half the shops seemed to be open. You might have thought that perhaps everything stays open later but I know from experience that this is not the case. I can only assume that the city now panders only to the day tripper visitors or resident students - neither group being known for embracing an early start to the day.
But it is half term so you’d think there might be more people around. Mind you, if this display in the Grosvenor Precinct represents the best Chester can do for Halloween, perhaps it’s not surprising the crowds have gone elsewhere.
Having said that, we had a pleasant walk, a bit of window shopping and a coffee. Time now to start packing the car before a duty visit to mother to check she’s ok. Then it’s northward bound for Kendal. But not before a detour to Liverpool to see Will Young in concert at the Philharmonic Hall tonight. We started this holiday last Sunday with a concert, so it seems only right to end it the same way.
