Castlefield Viaduct
Built in 1892, closed in 1969, the Castlefield Viaduct is a thing of beauty. It's big and mighty, and looms over Castlefield in a pleasing contrast to the Roman ruins below.
Last year, the National Trust took it over, in an admirable plan to create urban spaces for people to enjoy that don't involve a car and outrageous parking prices.
Currently, you have to book to visit, although it is free, and so the Minx sorted that out a few weeks ago, and today we went up for our chance to look around. I liked it but I kind of preferred the uncurated part (see Extra).
After that, we picked up Charlie and Hannah, and drove down to Sheffield to have lunch with Abi and the miniMinx, the last of which had worked until six am, so I was really pleased she managed to get along. (She'd thought, at one-thirty, that her shift had thirty minutes left, only to be told the clocks were going back.)
And in the evening, the Minx was going to a gig with her friend Nicky, so we met up at the Gaslamp for a drink with Yoss before she went on her way. I'd thought that once she'd gone, Yoss and I would just have a relatively calm evening but then we found a cocktail with absinth in, and, well, you can imagine the rest.
