Snow on the Mountains

 

G has his final pre-Christmas musical performance today - playing the accompaniment to a screening of The Snowman in Bangor Cathedral.  It’s a delightful occasion, ‘Walking in the Air’ performed by a choir of local school children, and Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols adding a more serious note. 

Watching The Snowman brings back so much of the magic of Christmas, and the sheer excitement of waking up to a thick fall of snow. We still have nothing here, but in the mountains of Eryri, it’s a different matter, and it’s through this glorious scenery that we drive to the rehearsal. 

And so today you have yet another set of Eryri shots, with Yr Wyddfa - Snowdon - clearly on view. Today we’re blessed with glorious clear skies and as the sun begins to set, gold-pink light highlights the snowy peaks. We drive through the rugged terrain of the Llanberis pass, ending up viewing the mountains across the waters of Llyn Padarn in the company of an elegant family of swans - the water here unfrozen, unlike those of higher lakes encountered earlier. I’m tempted to use my ‘usual’ Eryri shot as a main, but I’ve gone with the lake shot for a change.
