Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Another lie in for JR, but it’s back to the gym tomorrow… Another lazy day for me, with only two round-the-block walks with Archie. But I’m on the build-up to re-joining the gym next year. JR took him out for a longer walk in the afternoon, but sadly timed it for the start of a snow storm.

We finished watching ‘ The English’ despite after every episode being left confused, not having a clue what’s going on, just very graphic and unusually cruel ways of killing multiple people. I read a lot of the episode resumes, and many people found them confusing. And subtitles were definitely needed. But the cinematography, the sets and costumes and the big skies were fabulous. I used to love Saturday afternoon cowboy films - Roy Rogers, Zorro, the Lone Ranger… this bears no resemblance to them, but probably is a more accurate depiction of life in the ‘Wild West’.

Funnily enough, later on, ‘The Magnificent Seven’ (1960) was on - an old time cowboy film, very sweet in its innocence. And I wondered how the re-make would be done by ‘The English’ crew.

But we are delighted that a bonus episode of ‘The Detectorists’ is on tonight.

Leftover Christmas dinner - cold, and just as delicious. And we managed some Christmas pudding and custard.

We found this rather nice dressing table, just needs a bit of fixing up, but have no room for it…
