A star? An Inn? It's Christmas!

Through some social media platform or another, the Minx had clocked that there were carols and a brass band up at The Star Inn, tonight, which was, to us, an irresistible proposition.

We'd intended to walk up, but it's a bit of a schlep, especially in the dark and when it's so cold, so in the end we took an Uber. It didn't look particularly busy when we arrived, about twenty minutes before the event was due to start, so we bought ourselves drinks and sat inside for a while.

I guess it's a feature of a community pub, though, because just as we bought ourselves another drink and moved outside, people started to arrive, filling up the garden in front of the pub.

The brass band consisted of five people and, I must confess, I initially had my doubts, but the lady who introduced them told us of the various bands they all usually play for and, indeed, it turned out that they were absolute pros. And as everyone pulled up the words to the carols on their phones, a good time was had by all!

And after that we took another Uber down to Joule to meet up with Yoss and one of the other students from SEM, Benedict, for the Joule Christmas Quiz, which isn't 100% my bag, but I thought it would be enjoyable enough. Actually, though, it was excellent, primarily because of the owner's take on a pub quiz.

My favourite round was 'Service Station or cheese', for which we scored 7/10 despite all but one of our answers being guesses. Sample question: Pease Pottage. Great stuff!
