Today's the day ...................... to flood

Today, the plan was to return Tessa and Josie back to Moniaive where their Mum and Dad have been getting their house ready for re-habitation.  They have had some building work done which has taken much longer than expected and which has meant they had to find temporary accommodation elsewhere.  So everyone has been very excited about returning home as you can imagine.  

And we did set off - but after a night of unremittingly heavy rainfall and a Yellow Warning of rain still in place, it was very soon obvious that this part of the country had been badly affected by floodwater that just had nowhere to escape to.  Then Rob sent the above picture of the centre of the village and told us the sad story of the houses and one of the pubs that had been flooded.

Fortunately their house, which is on a slightly higher bit of land was fine but there was no way through the village at that time for cars.  So reluctantly, we decided it would be foolish to continue - and to turn round and return home.  

The girls were disappointed of course - but we'll try again tomorrow, when hopefully things will have improved ....................
