White Horse in the rain

Rain all day,  really dreary and dark too, but a day full of lovely things.  We went to Pallant House to see the Paintings of Sussex Exhibition, subtitled Chalk, Wood and Water.  It was lovely.  A few of the greats, a Turner, a small Constable and two Ravillious but a lot of unknown treasures.  I particularly liked Ivon Hutchins who I didn’t know and a small painting by a woman from the 1930s called Gluck who lived gender fluid.  Lots of views of the Downs and some strong contemporary work as well.

On a whim we stopped at this pub and ate a late lunch ina lovely room with good food.  Felt special and glad we’d finally stopped here - it’s about 20 mins from home.

Arrived back, and the rain really set in again so gave up on a walk, the dog has to be dragged out in weather like this, and settled in to the fireside.

Big joy watching the Sondheim tribute concert on BBC2 (iplayer people). I am a huge fan and it was wonderful to hear nearly 40 songs performed by a huge group of singing actors all having a whale of a time. Produced by Cameron MacKintosh and staged by Matthew Bourne.  It was fantastic

Then the new year rumbled in and we had a late supper and enjoyed it on our own.  Next year we must get out but it was fun being by our fireside

Happy New Year everyone!
