Coastal views and gabbling

The theme of today has primarily been coastal.

I started the day with a walk round Portsoy with my friend Ewan. We saw the 17th century harbour (see yesterday’s post) in daylight and the dolphin sculpture overlooking it and the rocky coastline. We walked past the area where they used to dry the salmon nets and round by the park and little loch.

I then headed off to Nairn to attend the funeral of a family friend (aged 95). On my way I did a detour to Sandend where the sea was busy with surfers. This one was succeeding well on the low swell. The air temperature had risen to 5oC.! Not quite tropical

Then through Cullen to arrive in good time for the funeral. Gerald was a character full of life and life experiences. The eulogy captured him perfectly. The “bun fight” ( as he asked it to be called) was in the Nairn Golf Club down by the sea where he had been an active member until recently . The views over to Cromarty were lovely as was the spectacle of a plane heading west to land at Inverness airport, as seen from the golf course.

Onwards then to Beauly to meet up with my former CHS chair. The family run a restaurant with accommodation at Downright Gabbler where they host themed events where information, stories and views are imparted in a very entertaining way while you enjoy a delicious meal.

A lovely end to a day of mixed emotions.
