Amandine's Plot Treize

First basil sowing

It's nearly March now so I'm turning my attention to more tender crops. In previous years, I used grow lights but I've given them to an allotment friend (in exchange of help with woodchipping, and she offered honey as she's a beekeeper) and will wait a bit later to start sowing.

The main issue with grow lights is the use of energy (rising bills etc) but also raising crops from seed at home is time-consuming and you need a lot of compost.

This year, I've decided to use the greenhouse beds and grow fewer tender plants. I know some of my allotment friends will be desperate for people to take chili and aubergine plants off their hands in a few months. And the tomatoes will be fine if sowed in the greenhouse in April or May. Courgettes, squashes and cucumbers will be sowed outside under cloches.
