Gaia….
I went to see this artwork installed for a couple of weeks in our local Arts Centre( previously a church) It is called Gaia an artwork by Luke Gerram. The idea is that you watch the Earth (7m in diameter) slowly spin and reflect on the realisation that we all share one beautiful but fragile planet. The ‘sculpture’ makes use of high resolution NASA imagery. There is also meant to be an accompanying soundtrack but that was not working this morning!
Gaia means land or earth in Greek.
There is a mirror table placed so that you can put your phone and get the mirror image I have here. No professional photography allowed!
The opinions about this work from my friends vary from…
‘Amazing and wonderful and very moving’ to ‘Underwhelming ….it’s really just a big balloon’ .
Admission to see it is free but you have to get a ticket and are invited to make a donation, they are also organising other paid for events underneath it eg yoga and some concerts.
There is more than one Gaia and they have been on display at many venues around the U.K. and other parts of the world
We had more rain last night and overcast at present so not sure if I will need to water the allotment later.
Tennis from Queens is on TV so I may watch some, while husband is watching the test match.
