The moment arrived…
Finally after 14 weeks we get to film the opening sequence of our show in Glasgow Central station shooting through the night from 9pm to nearly 6am. I was producer on set because the main producer was directing on our other unit as the director’s mother had died and it was the day of the funeral. It’s not usual to leave it quite so late but access to real trains and railway stations has been one of the biggest issues in making this show
I paced myself really badly for it, waking before six and racing around trying to get things sorted in the house before i left. I then spent a couple of hours with my mother welcoming in her new live in carer and setting us all up on WhatsApp. Before taking a long involved call in the car which only ended when I had to check in for the plane.
Glasgow broke the bubble of sunshine and it was cooler. I was glad to be back at the Adagio before going out on set early.
I was really tired though and found the shoot hugely difficult, in truth a producer isn’t really needed on set, unless they are, so you’ve not got the energy of being busy nor really the hope of being needed.
There was one point when I sat down shortly before midnight on a platform bench and must have gone instantly asleep. On waking I found myself surrounded by the whole crew. Embarrassing. People kept saying ‘did you enjoy your snooze?!’ Crews all go a bit hard man on night shoots
