Tree bumblebee

From The Bumblebee Conservation Trust site:

" Queens, workers and males all have a black head, brown-ginger thorax, black abdomen with a white tail. The proportion of white on the tail does vary significantly but is always present. This species was first found in the UK in 2001, but is now found throughout most of England and Wales. It prefers to nest above ground, often inhabiting bird boxes. "

Yesterday I noticed bees coming in and out of the bird box that we put up with great expectation a few years ago and that has never been visited by even one bird ( not surprising as our garden is like the cat version of Grand Central Station ).

I haven't managed to get a decent shot of them, but thought I would send this off to the Bioblitz survey site. Hoping to have time tomorrow to find a few more creepy crawlies to report on.
