Diary of an Edinburgher

Airports!

A whole day spent at airports. Well, not quite all day - we stayed on the boat till after lunch, and then a group of us were taken to the airport. Actually, it was really nice just waving everybody else off, and then spotting the newbies arriving for lunch. But yes, we'd just about had enough - it's quite very tiring being out and about every day, then socialising every night. Though the others socialised relentlessly - we must be are getting old.

Unfortunately we didn't have a direct flight, but had to go to Frankfurt, which thankfully wasn't a long stopover, but we did have a few hours at Budapest airport, which I must say, was very impressive - bright, airy, open, plenty of seating areas, fast efficient security. (spot JR) Which contrasted badly with Edinburgh airport. For one thing, when we landed, we had to sit on the plane for about 20 minutes while they got a bus to us (short staffed). We needed a bus because we were away out in the backblocks - I don't know why - Lufthansa isn't a budget airline, and we were the only arrival. The bonus was that there wasn't far to walk to security, often it's up STAIRS and along drab corridors. And the luggage was on the carousel before us.

Archie got out of his bed to welcome us briefly, then went back to bed. I'm amazed that he and Maggie did not utter a sound as we came in the door in the middle of the night! We could have been burglars.

Big Day tomorrow!
