Turn It On Again

Ascending into the loft this morning, I found it darker than normal as only one of the strip lights had come on. It was either the tube or the starter, and a bit of swapping around of components soon established it was the latter.
Given that the lights were installed some fifteen years ago, I wondered if Fluorescent Tubes were even still a thing these days. I suspect they wouldn’t be used in new installations, but a quick search revealed starters and tubes were readily available. One trip to CEF later and two new starters (one to replace the dead one and one as a spare in case of future failures) were acquired for the princely sum of £2.34! Full illumination has now been restored to the loft.
This afternoon should have been band practice, but our drummer had to work at short notice. As we had to pay for the room anyway, the rest of us just jammed around a few numbers we are hoping to introduce - or re-introduce - to the set. Quite a useful session from my point of view, and I’ve got a much better idea of how to play a couple of the new numbers than I did before.
We’ve got a gig tomorrow night, but it would be a little unfair to spring a new song on our drummer if he doesn’t know it. Hopefully he can make next week’s practice and we can get some new ones in the set for the gigs at the end of August.
