During the commencement ceremony this evening, my good friend and colleague leaned over and said to me, "I wonder where all the followers go to school. There must be a good school somewhere that educates them."
He has a seriously dry humor and it is tremendously funny to sit in on one of his classes and watch as the students completely miss his humor. His jokes zoom right over the tops of their heads.

We spent the afternoon doing the Assessment of the Basic Writing course. Nine of us gathered and read a total of 85 essays; two of our part-time faculty were part of the nine readers. Each essay was read by two people and assessed with a 4-part rubric if the two readers did not score the essay alike then a third reader had a turn at assessing the essays with those discrepancies.
If I were not so tired from the school year and not so stressed because I was a co-leader on this project, it would have been very interesting. The colleague who oversees all campus assessment projects is a member of the English Dept and was there to assist with the reading of essays; he felt that today's project was very successful. So that's a woohoo.
Good night from Southern California.
