Almost There

3pm on a cold, grey Thursday afternoon, and there are now only twelve hours remaining before we need to set off to the airport for our first foreign holiday in over five years.
And yet the packing is still not complete. Most of the stuff on the settee/floor needs to go in one or other of the bags which, in turn, need to be packed in the car. That’s leaving aside the things still in the tumble dryer that we want to take with us. Also, things like medication and toiletries will have to go in last minute, so we need to ensure nothing is left out in the rush.
On the plus side, the car has been fuelled and the tyres checked. Weather forecast for tomorrow morning not too bad and no planned motorway closures noted, so we should get to the airport on time. Still leaving a good chunk of time in reserve though - best laid plans and all that!
It’s remembering all the other little things that is the issue at the moment. Turn off the water and heating, but not until after last showers, etc. Make sure there is nothing left in the fridge that can go off. Empty all the bins. Ensure all windows and doors locked and curtains half drawn - neighbours know we are away and will keep an eye on the house.
And, finally, try and find time for a bit of a kip before having to get up at 1am. It’s going to be a long day tomorrow…
