Turnaround
Filthy weather this morning - torrential rain (although still mild temperature) but luckily the cottage is cosy and makes the view of low cloud and rain something of interest rather than unpleasant. Started the morning with a fairly short committee meeting online which went fine until my phone overheated and blocked my connection (odd!)
Relaxed and did some reading, chatting to Ky on and off about pensions and house moves and photography.
After another picky lunch we headed around to the Waternish peninsula, planning on exploring Dunvegan Castle and craft shops whilst it was still wet, but by the time we arrived at the castle the sun broke through and we had gorgeous views from the house and gun implacements, and a lovely walk through the gardens with waterfalls and stunning autumn colours. The video by the current chief at the end of the castle tour was cringeworthy unfortunately…very poorly made, very little new information and incredibly wooden posh boy delivery… hopeless!
Stopped at two art galleries with some nice prints and cards, then at Skye Skins the sheepskin place I’d visited before with S. we had a very informative tour of the tannery (no evil smells thank goodness!) where everything is done by hand and they use mimosa bark to treat the skins rather than chemicals…interesting.
From there we drove up to the Ardmore and Truman area…fabulous views (main picture) and a ruined church which was the site of one of the two massacres in a single day between the Macleods and the MacDonalds.
Had a good wander around… the sun had just gone behind a huge grey cloud so it all looked very dramatic and brooding, but very beautiful anyway.
Drove back to Stein and had delicious fish and chips at the Stein Inn… fun eclectic place with a real sense of history and spankingly good fish and seafood (unfortunately no langoustines tonight which I’d fancied ordering). A beautiful sunset as we finished up there (extra).
Home and an early night….another lovely day
