Southern Comfort

We went to see Larkin Poe at Manchester’s Albert Hall last night. They are a band from Nashville USA, fronted by the Lovell sisters, and I had wanted to see them for a while. I think it was around this time last year that I spotted they were doing a U.K. tour, so I grabbed a couple of tickets for the venue nearest to us. Quite glad I got in early, as the gig was totally sold out. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Albert Hall so busy, but we managed to find a space at the back where we weren’t in a crush, could hear the music and still had a reasonable view.
It was a great concert, full of energy, superb musicianship and great tunes. Their style fuses American roots, gospel, blues and country - what is generally called “Southern Rock”. Think Allman Brothers Band or Lynyrd Skynyrd and you get the general idea.
A decent run home from Manchester but it was almost 2am before we got to bed. Still up reasonably early though, so we squeezed in a gym session before lunch. This afternoon I have been setting up for tonight’s Route 66 gig and am now at home for tea before heading back out. We’re not on until 10pm, so time for a bit of a rest as well. Hopefully tonight won’t be too late a finish (the venue has a fairly strict curfew) but it could still be the wee small hours before I get to bed. Oh well, at least I can have a lie-in tomorrow as I’m not needed for Panto rehearsal.
