Marquee Moon

It’s a posh gig tonight as we’re playing at a wedding reception. However, it might also be a quiet gig as the party is being held in the marquee at Barrow Raiders ground and they have had noise complaint issues in the past. We set up this afternoon and checked the PA and monitors. A good job we did as I discovered my in ears weren’t working properly. I traced it to a dodgy cable connecting my IEM transmitter to the mixer. Plugging the transmitter straight in to the mixer seemed to solve the problem, so we should be ok tonight.
The first set got quieter and quieter as we went on - apparently complaints were being received. But when you can hear people at the tables talking whilst you’re playing, you have to wonder how much quieter they want us to be!
After some discussion, we only did a short - and quiet - second set before handing over to the DJ. Though we did ramp it up a bit for the last number on the basis they couldn’t do anything as we were finishing anyway!
I do have to wonder how much longer they’ll be able to put on events in this marquee. Many more complaints and it won’t just be a case of turning the music down, it’ll be more like orders to take the marquee down for good.
Oh well, at least we know we can be as noisy as we like tomorrow and NYE. Volume back up to 11 I think…
