Diary of an Edinburgher

DAY TWO (Brisbane)

We have a very nice 'apartment' right in the centre of the city, only a block or two from the river. We were both awake about 3am, and I stayed awake till dawn, then woke up at midday!

Rang our friends as planned, and we went out for a stroll around the 'hood (LOTS of high-end shops, I noted). Well, that proved to be an eye opener. As suspected - I cannot cope with 30° heat. Even on the shady side of the road. We found a Woolworths, but I think they're a different concept to the erstwhile one in UK. We just need a few toiletries, though we did pick up a few freebies on the plane. We managed to find a bottle store and got a nice bottle of fizz to bring to Susan and Tony.

I was stuffed on that short excursion!! Which doesn't bode well for seeing much of the city...

Our pals, who used to live in Edinburgh, came to pick us up about 3pm. They live quite close to the city centre. What a lovely time we had. TWO bottles of champagne, then wine, with (special Aussie) cheese and crackers. Then Susan made a delicious meal with king prawns. What a treat! Harry the dog was very interested in what was on the table… he’s wearing his new tartan scarf.

Their house is great - a typical Queenslander, with the converted garage underneath. A very professional looking barbecue set up out on the back deck, and a swimming pool at the end of the garden.

We got an Uber home about 8pm, and stopped off for a coffee at the hotel cafe.

Another fun day planned for tomorrow!
