The Gantt Lamp Company

This is a treasure (thanks to Valentina64 who gave me this idea) of mine that was painted by my Granny. She was great for writing on the inside of things the year and she painted this in 1948. She worked at the Gantt Lamp Company in Mayfield, Kentucky, although it's called the Polynesian Arts Company in the article. The women would sit and paint all the details on the lamps. I remember Granny saying she was good at it because she was so good at putting her makeup on and using little brushes.

I have never really looked this company up and I googled it and found an article on Hugh Gantt who started it. Here is a little bit that I copied:
Texas-born Hugh H. Gantt had founded the Polynesian Arts Company in Mayfield just after the war, converting a tomato cannery into a modest facility for pottery manufacture. Located in Graves County, Mayfield was an ideal location for pottery production, as the area was known as an enormous resource of ball clay. Starting with seven employees and a single kiln with a 200 unit per day capacity, the company soon grew to what was said to be the largest producer of lamp bases in the world.
I have included a picture in the extra of a store room with a lot of different lamps but you can see the similarities.

Now the interesting thing is my Granny always had her eye peeled for a handsome man.  My mom says that Granny was in love with Hugh but he was married to Carmelita, who's shown in the photo. After his wife died Granny did end up marrying Hugh. What a rabbit hole I've gone down. My granny had five husbands and several boyfriends. She was something else. I will try to find a photo of her and post it as an extra tomorrow. She was definitely a looker and loved a good time. I sure miss her.
