Something a Little Different

The size of a crocus, looks like a tulip but although once classified as a tulip, it is Amana edulis.  Amana are separated from Tulipa by small botanical details.  In the wild it grows in China and Japan.    In poor light and mild weather the stems quickly etiolate and flop over so I'm really chuffed at how these, in a clay pot in the greenhouse, are really short and in character.  It's hardy enough to be grown outside but here in Wales especially it's eye level to slugs.  This from 2012 in Norwich out in the garden.

Another day at home, morning brightness saw me out in the greenhouse, tidying and mixing compost for replanting the Achimenes and their relatives, a job that will be complete later this evening.  The dogs and I had a walk up the lane and a run in the ball field too.  A few distractions sorting stuff for R & J but it's been good watching Throw Down in parallel with Ruth tonight ... but we are still a week behind!
