Dippers
We were pretty lazy this morning. Hubby has caught the genealogy bug. He came across a web site called “Find A Grave” and he’s worse than Minecraft gamers, can’t get away from it. He’s made great progress documenting his father’s family. I did some housework and laundry until lunch time. We made a sandwich and then went to our parish school. “Catholic Schools Week 2024 is January 29 – February 2 (in the U. S.) and the theme is ‘Catholic Schools: Unity in Faith and Community.’ Schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation during this week.” - ncea.org. They have activities all week that celebrate the students, teachers, staff and families. Although we no longer have grands in the elementary school, we still volunteer with the Knights to provide an ice cream social for the students on the last day of their celebration. We dipped up around 150 bowls of chocolate, vanilla and/or strawberry ice cream while the kids ate lunch. We are always pleased with their good manners when they come through the line. I provide chocolate syrup and hubby dispenses the whipped cream. He said that is his favorite station; the little ones’ faces light up when he squirts the fluffy cream on their dish. Other toppings include strawberry or caramel syrup and of course, sprinkles. Hubby has also volunteered to photograph/upload requested local headstones for the Find a Grave repository. There were seven requests from our parish cemetery. After the social, I read while he searched one of three sections. He found none so he will ask if there is a map at the parish office that can help him. And that was about the gist of our day. We took a short nap and folded laundry and will probably read more this evening. Hoping you had a restful Friday and are ready for another fun packed weekend. Stay safe. Thanking each of you for all the recent stars, hearts and nice comments on my journal. “Volunteers are paid in six figures — S-M-I-L-E-S.” - Attributed to Gayla Lemaire
