The Red Dragon
When Milly signed up for the Leeds Marathon this coming May, I said I'd train with her, partly to give her some moral support, but also to get myself back up to a point where I could run the Roman road from Bainbridge to Ingleton. And it's been going pretty well; we're up to around ten miles now.
This week, her plan includes a nine and a half mile run, so I suggested we do my route up to Hutton Roof, today.
I made two errors here: firstly, I'd run on Sunday and Monday, so my legs were feeling it a bit (although this wasn't immediately apparent), and secondly, I am still someway off my ideal running weight, and this is a very hilly run.
But despite all that we made it in good time, running at just over ten and a half minutes a mile, and Milly had no problem with it at all.
While we were running, we discussed the next couple of longer runs - a ten miler and a half-marathon a fortnight apart - and I was cool with those, thinking I'd pick less hilly routes, but then it transpires that Easter Sunday we're doing sixteen miles.
I'm really going to have to lose some weight!
Not that that plan got off to a good start as I spent the afternoon and evening with Bob and Rich in the pubs of Kirkby Lonsdale, plus a visit to the curry house.
We did have a great time, though, and I enjoyed it when Dan and Milly joined us for a couple of drinks, especially seeing how well they got on with Bob.
