Airfield

Niece R’s son A loves cars, trains, tractors and planes. Essentially things mechanical that move. I have spent the week in part having a crash course in the things that excite a 12 year old boy in 2024. So it is that I find myself at Compton Abbas airfield this morning, following flight radar and watching a small plane land. A nice airfield, sitting atop chalk downland with views across to Shaftesbury. It is owned by film director Guy Ritchie, who also owns local brewery Gritchies (I can recommend a pint of “English Lore”).

This afternoon a walk with BiL P and nieces R and B from the house across the fields and up to the Iron Age hill fort atop Hambledon Hill (extra). Not the best of weather, but still very enjoyable. Lots of ewes with their gambolling lambs. We returned via Childe Oakford, passing a house where a puppeteer once lived. Rather bizarrely icons of my youth Sooty, Sweep and Sue sat looking out of a window.
