Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Lovely day! All day. Things are looking up. Archie and I went round to the Links and were greeted with a horde of kids and booming pop music. The local primary school were having their sports day. They were SO lucky to have a dry warm day for it!

We met a little doggie of indeterminate origins, who trotted up to meet us. The owner was quick to tell me that she (the doggie) was a schnauzer, and indeed Archie seemed to recognise some tenuous link to his forebears and was friendly to her. Rosie, for that was her (the dog’s) name, was 15!! But she was deaf, half blind, racked with arthritis and newly diagnosed with diabetes, requiring injections twice a day… I warned Archie not to even bother thinking of doing that to us!

We popped in to see Mary, an elderly neighbour, but she now has helpers in to assist her morning and evening routines, but they don’t come till 10.30am, which is not exactly convenient. I can’t just ‘pop in’ on her any more. I’ll have to make a date.

In the afternoon we both decided to take Archie out, but as we passed Toast, we happened to pop in, and shared a big deliciously chewy cinnamon bun instead! Then I lost interest in walking any further, so just came home, while the others went a longer walk, and sent me a photo sitting outside a wine bar in the sun in Bruntsfield. Archie appeared to be enjoying a glass of rosé…
