Diary of an Edinburgher

D Day

Watched all of the D Day ceremonies, in Portsmouth and in Bayeux yesterday, and today, at the British Memorial in the morning, and in the afternoon, the French ceremony. They were all different, and just wonderful. The singing, the speeches, the military bands, the slow marching, young soldiers reading out last letters home, veterans giving their tributes to their fallen comrades, school children giving the veterans flowers. Not a dry eye in the house!

I popped to the shop and also to have a look at the Netflix film set. What a hoo-haa! Dozens of folk milling around, trailers, roads closed, lights, security folk. One kindly held Archie’s lead while I popped into the shop.

Then I took a notion to start cleaning the back pavers, using the power washer. I couldn’t figure out which attachments could connect it to the tap, and to its extension hose, and so I just used the less powerful bucket connection. But it worked OK. They look much better. Though I may need to do another swish on the bits I missed.

In the afternoon JR walked Archie to the vet for yet another follow up to his operation months ago! He still has a sore bit, and has to wear his cone most of the time, poor little sausage. It’s very kind of the vet to count it as a ‘follow up’ and not charge for the visit, but I don’t think we can try that any more. But he goes for his 6 month check up in a couple of weeks, so hopefully the new tablets for his ‘allergy’ will have worked by then.

An exciting day tomorrow. We’re heading over the Queensferry Bridge!
