Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Once Archie had gone out with Elizabeth, we set off down town. Actually just down the road - not town. We’re lucky enough to have three theatres within walking distance. But we got the bus down. It was sunny but jings - it was a cold wind. The place was full of partially dressed young women, wearing pink Stetson hats and as little as possible elsewhere, as long as it was glittery. I don’t think they noticed the cold wind… yes, Taylor Swift has another concert tonight.

We went to the afternoon showing of ‘Sunset Song’, based on the classic Scottish novel set in the north east just before World War 1. It was brilliant! The acting, the songs, the music (the actors also played instruments) the Doric…

And you meet such interesting people at the theatre… The woman beside me had been a doctor in New Zealand - on a remote Hick’s Bay station!! AND a stint in Murchison, another remote spot in the South Island. Her husband was a book publisher, who actually published my Uncle Angus’s book about his father growing up on a remote island in the Outer Hebrides.
