Tuesday: #30DaysWild - Nature’s Cures
As I was inspecting the flowers of Acanthus spinosus (Bear’s Breeches) this morning I managed to get stung by the nettles next to it, this is nothing new and I’m sure I’ve read somewhere that it’s good for us! I went off in search of some dock leaves which are allowed to grow everywhere, cut a couple of leaves and rubbed my stung skin, soon stopped tingling :-)
How many fellow Blippers know about this? Did you learn it as a child?
I fear that lots of this “old knowledge” is lost because families rely too heavily on manufactured remedies - a shame really because dock leaves can be thrown on the ground and cause no harm, packaging and artificial ingredients cause all sorts of problems and damage to us and our natural environment :-((
At lunchtime I was looking through an upstairs window onto the very tall and rather scruffy pear tree, there was a solitary female Chaffinch hopping from branch to branch collecting tiny insects from the leaves - obviously nesting, haven’t seen them for weeks … this spring is challenging to the wildlife, very cold and we’ve had wind and heavy rain, 13°C and no wind but not what you’d call warm either :-((
Loads of love and hugs to all my family / Cariad Mawr
