Day 15 Santillana del Mar to Comillas

Writing this as I wait in the queue to see Gaudi’s Caprice in Comillas. My energy returned today and that combined with cooler weather that required a fleece made for a great day of walking, quiet country roads dipping down to beaches full of surfers who weren’t noticing the chilly wind and occasional shower.

Today felt like a pilgrimage as I moved through village after village all with most beautiful churches including the 18th century Iglesia de San Martín de Tours in Cigüenza, extra.

I explored Comillas beach and harbour by toy train, the best €3 I’ve spent in a while and returned by train, there was no hopping on and off, with just enough time to look around the Capricho de Gaudi, build as a summerhouse for Marquis de Comillas who made his fortune from the Cuban slave trade.

Dinner is too late here so I opted for a sandwich and emergency chocolate.
26k, 448m ascent, one pilgrim, and a group of 4. Although when I was on the train I did see few more walking towards the town.

The second extra is one of the stained-glass windows in the Erminta de San Roque, which I almost overlooked, the only one that was open.
