In the Heights

Cabrillo Stage, our local musical theater company, chose Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights as its summer production, and it is a splendid choice. Clever set, quality talent, and a high-energy hip hop script earned a standing ovation from the packed house. It was a good way to spend the afternoon with the family, although we are all exhausted from the non-stop enthusiasm put forward by the cast. We watched the movie  a week ago in order to get familiar with the music and the story; I don’t think I’d have been able to keep up if we hadn’t done that—the lyrics just move too fast.
