Eilean agus caisteal

Drove down to the general area of Moidart, stopping at Our Lady of the Angels church (first extra: where my grandmother was baptized in 1885), and then the parish graveyard where D and I spent some time wandering about looking for possible ancestors. Didn't find any of the right name, but a lot of the stones were illegible of course. Anyway, they may have been buried at the traditional buryng ground on Green Island.  And there were a lot of midges.

Then after a bite of lunch at the Cafe Tioram we went on up the Dorlin Road to have a look at Castle Tioram and Eilean Shona itself. The island is bigger than I realised and has some quite high ground in the middle. (Main blip) We walked across to the castle - 2nd extra. Looks a lot like castle Mingary on Ardnamurchan that D once worked on. Then had a look at the island from the castle (3rd extra). The castle itself is out of bounds (4th extra).

There is a strangely large and obvious sign on the shore saying "telephone cable". D was approaching it to have a look at any visible electrics, knowing about that sort of thing, but I don't think he figured out what it was. (5th extra).

Back to Glenfinnan eventually. P had spent the day counting out money to distribute into envelopes for the prizes at this Saturday's Glenfinnan Games (she had become de facto treasurer by accident)! A friend of D & P's from the village joined us for dinner - a delightful and and very knowledgeable lady. And we had a short but excellent cabaret just outside the window....(last extra).
