On our way home we made a return visit to Holehird Gardens near Windermere. In spite of being early autumn there were still many more flowers in bloom than in the other beautiful gardens that we had recently visited. Among the displays are over 100 varieties of hydrangeas, some of which are in the extra collage. There were also more peacock butterflies than I had seen the rest of the year.
As we drove over the Kirkstone Pass the sun disappeared with the cloud low on the hills and much of the drive home was in mist and rain with thick fog from Soutra Hill north. We are unlikely to see any butterflies basking in the sun if the forecast of the North Sea haar in this area is correct but we have had a good few days seeing the family for three days before the diversion to the Lake District.
