Sightseeing
Great day! My headache is easing off although still a bit of a dull thud, but it didn’t get in the way of a good time. I went to buy B&J some newspapers then came home to set up breakfast and we chatted whilst we grazed on muesli and toast etc (pleased with my new toaster!].
We were lucky with the weather…lots of sunshine and much less wind than yesterday, so it wa great for doing the tour of the city. We started though by going to look at where J’s parents used to live on Balgownie Rd when her Dad was a student at the Dick Vet school, and at the address where the nursing home was where her brother was born whilst they were here (now a hotel).
Dropped the car back home, then walked down through the park to the palace and parliament where they were getting ready for tomorrow’s visit by the King to mark 25th anniversary of the opening of the parliament….lots of barriers around and we couldn’t go into the building.
We then walked up the royal mile, stopping to look at lots of interesting spots on the way, via the cathedral to the castle esplanade and taking in the views all around. Down the Mound and into the galleries briefly where we admired ‘my’ Velasquez and had a scone and reviving tea. Along Princes St gardens and up to Carlton Hill for some more amazing views, then after their underground trip yesterday they wanted to follow up on Burke and Hare so we went to the Surgeons’ Hall museum to see the ghoulish remnants but found ourselves equally enthralled and appalled by all the other exhibits.
From there we wandered back via EFI to the High St for an early dinner at Angels with Bagpipes where we had a riotous time sharing all the small plates and laughing and chatting some more. Lots of fun…can’t even really remember what we talked about - all sorts - but we had a great time.
Staggered home…we’d walked just over 8 miles…for tea and a slump on the sofas where we looked through all our Borneo photos once I’d worked out how to airplay from my laptop to the TV. More laughs and reminiscence, then bed!
