Quod oculus meus videt

The Old Man of Storr

Well worth the effort of another early start and then a climb of over 1000 feet from the car park to reach the rock formations and be able to shoot back towards Loch Fada.

I was not the only photographer, in fact I counted 8 people with tripods standing on a promontory above the Old Man. A definition of a honey pot location. I wasn’t quite sure why they were there and I was never one to follow the crowd so I went for a different location for the long shot back to the rocks.  When the sun rose across the Isle of Rasay it brought the area alive and it stayed like that for some time. As a result I was again late for breakfast.

We have relocated to Gairloch, taking a route over the pass at Bealach na Ba at over 1900 feet on the way to Applecross. Then we used the coast road to Kinlochewe before turning to Gairloch. Most of the drive from Lochcarron was on single track road, which is pretty tiring as you have to concentrate in anticipation of vehicles coming in the opposite direction.

We made it to our hotel by 5 pm, had a quick walk on the beach in front of our room and are now looking forward to a good meal.
