All Together Now
There are thirty plus people in the photo. Add in the Director (who took the photo), Front of House staff, scenery and costume bods and a few assorted office staff and you have between forty and fifty people involved in each performance of Blackadder. It almost seems unfair that only a few of us get to bask in the applause each night!
It really goes to show what a team effort it has to be to produce a successful show, and that everyone’s contribution is equally valid, whether on stage or off.
Having said that, the picture almost didn’t happen. The Director asked us all to be available early doors on Friday. But most of us couldn’t make it. Can we do it on the final night we asked. No, was the reply, it had to be the Friday. With a bit of co-operation from the Stage Manager and FoH staff, we were able to clear the auditorium quickly, reopen the tabs and get everyone lined up before people started to drift off to the bar.
And the reason we had to do the picture on the Friday became clear when we arrived at the theatre last night. Kris, our Director, had made personalised cards for us all. The picture was on the front and there was a quote from each character inside. A very thoughtful gesture and it definitely made us all feel valued.
Quite sad it’s all over now. Not that I’m going to be at a loss for things to do. Made in Dagenham next week and then the Panto, will mean I’m going to be busy until well into January.
