For the family

A trip to Lincoln

The eight of us plus 2 dogs headed across to Lincoln today. B and I have lived in that area three times between 1971 and 2023, so have lots of memories and were delighted when R & S suggested that we take the Canadian family.

We visited the Cathedral first. We always attended midnight mass at Christmas, but were unaware of the extent of all the areas on the site. We must have spent a couple of hours wandering around. We had lunch in the cafe before moving on to the castle which is nearby.

The Cathedral is dog friendly and the girls were well behaved. The Castle doesn’t allow dogs, so they and I went back to one of the cars for a rest. I was flagging and enjoyed a short kip, whilst the rest of the group visited the castle.

We then headed down Steep Hill, the ladies and Olive down the main route and the gents with Amber down a more gentle route, safer for the wheelchair occupant!  It’s a quirky area with cute little shops.

There was a detour to check out the University Technical College on Lindum Road. R was the Founding Principal.

We eventually we walked down the High St to the station to be collected in the cars. It was lovely to see the range of shops. Where we live at present we don’t have any clothes shops.

The plan had been to have dinner on the way home, but a call from the Best Man, his wife and children to say that they were back in Uttoxeter, so we headed home.

A brilliant day, with an added bonus of the sight of a Red Arrow jet flying overhead between the buildings. The RAF aerobatic team practiced close to where we lived and part of our life. The short burst of action was like a ‘hello, we are still here!’ message. Heartwarming!!
