On another beautiful sunny day, after walking Django, I took a bus into Edinburgh. I arrived just in time for a supervision meeting with my Year 4 project student, which was brief but intense, as I successfully explained a couple of bits of programming that he'd got very wrong. I've coded the operation hundreds of times, so it's easy to underestimate how tricky it is first time.

The rush was because I gave an 8-minute "lightning talk" in a set of five before a catered lunch that would allow the speakers and audience to network. The other talks were interesting, but not relevant to me, but one contained a slide that I can't unsee (see extra). The speaker explained that they were using image processing to identify cows. When I asked him whether they'd tried brown cows, he admitted that it was much more difficult than with Friesians!  I'd had one question about my talk, and eventually I met up with the rest of the team and had a good chat.

At the top of the University Christmas tree there was anything but a fairy.

Back at Kings Buildings, the office was empty, so I got on with a small programming task before leaving for home.
