Professional Driving
When we got up this morning we had a vague promise that someone would start fitting our new windows on Friday or maybe Monday. Before I was even dressed the phone went and it was a delivery company explaining they would soon be arriving to deliver the new windows. I rapidly dressed and was standing outside waiting for the lorry to arrive when the phone went again. It was our window fitter Peter, explaining he'd be starting work at 7:30 tomorrow morning. Wow - suddenly it's all happening.
The lorry arrived and it looked huge but the driver was very laconic and said he'd back up to the main house. I was doubtful but with the edge of the offside wheels hanging off the drive, and the nearside only 5cm from the Red House roof he slowly backed round the slight corner and then up to the house. I was very impressed, and also glad it was minus 10°C so the ground was very well frozen.
Once this large lorry backed up to the house and opened up I could see it was almost empty (extra). Our windows took up about a tenth of the space!
Now the windows are sitting on the frozen lawn and tomorrow, around 7:30, Peter will be here to start removing the old windows and fitting the new ones.
The rest of the day has been spent clearing everything away from the windows and the walls around the windows. We have to move tables, sofas, lamps, beds and very many small bits and pieces, which then need to be covered in plastic for when the dusty stuff starts.
So now we are about as ready as we can be, and thinking of going to bed early as Peter will be here to start work at 7:30.
