Bath
A lovely but exhausting day. Stopped at Warminster on the way down and charged the car at a superfast and reliable charging station, killing time in a very average pub. Warminster is a strange, run-down place with a lack of anything that makes life worth living, although the buildings and surrounding countryside are beautiful. Not a place to return to (unless you need to charge your EV).
Parking in Bath itself started off in nightmarish fashion, but then we found somewhere a few minutes walk from the centre. Had an excellent late lunch in a little vegan place called The Green Rocket then went ‘round the markets. Got a few nice bits for ourselves and others - the stalls are better than most and they are huge in number - but also had some really nice chats with the stallholders.
Went to The Raven pub for a couple of beers which is a lovely place where people talk to each other and there is not a fruit machine or tv in sight, just good beer and (allegedly) good food. They have a library room and monthly storytelling evenings. Fabulous. An office party came in each carrying a large wreath that they had made on a team building day up in the hills above the city. Slightly bizarre sight unless you knew the back story.
Great day, got home just before nine pm after a two hundred mile ‘round trip. Only sobering moment was getting a message to confirm that D’s funeral would be held on December 21st in Bradford. Very sad.
