My New Homemade Quilt

We started serious packing today. Our tubs were organized, final laundry jobs started and preps made so we only have to fill the vehicles. We sorted clothes we’ll wear Wed-Sat and packed everything else. I decided to show you one of my two new quilts before I packed it away. The colors are perfect for one of the spare bedrooms. If you look at it enlarged, you will note the flowers are cross stitched. My sister and I updated our food inventory spreadsheet. We keep a ton of food on hand as this is our emergency meeting place in case we have to evacuate our MD homes. Living so close to a nuclear power plant necessitates an emergency plan. Most of our family will meet here. We’ve collected anything that will freeze to store it in the basement before we leave. Our BIL worked outside to winterize the area. We won’t be back until late February. Hubby spent the morning trying to reserve his MerleFest campsite. It is windy and our cell service was particularly hit or miss today. I was very tired and fell asleep late afternoon. My sister woke me up to say she’d just received a text from our other MD sister. Because of the poor service, neither of us had received the initial call. Our mother had been at Barbara’s home since Saturday (now we understand why she did not answer our calls). She fell today and they had to call an ambulance for help getting her up. They transported her to the hospital. Our first report was that they thought she’d had a stroke. We were glad we’d packed today. Later, they called back and said tests showed she has an infection. They are giving her antibiotics and fluids; she’ll be hospitalized for a few days. Right now, she is in the hallway of the Emergency room; the hospital is over capacity. They promised to at least move her to a curtained private room in the ER if they could not find a room elsewhere. Our sister assured us Momma is fine and there is no need for us to come home; she has everything under control. Kim went to see Momma and she was coherent, worrying about not having her glasses. This whole situation happened over hours. We were anxious until we got a diagnosis, not sure what we should do. But we’ll stay here until Saturday unless Momma’s status changes. Our sister said Momma will stay with her indefinitely so there isn’t much we can do. We’ve offered our assistance in the meantime. Our children are also standing by to help. Wishing you all the help you need. Stay safe.
