Taking One for the Team
It was a terrible gray and rainy day. Brooklyn’s (#12) first basketball game of the season started at 1:00 pm so we decided to go to 11:00 am Mass. We’d get to the game just in time and not have to go out twice. We spent the morning with post vacation jobs, emptying suitcases and tubs mostly. Brooklyn’s family and Kristen’s family (except Sky who headed back to collage) all attended the game. The team lost some key players so we were a bit concerned about the outcome. Our fears were for naught. We were up 34-3 at the start of the fourth quarter. The coach put in his new players to give them some floor time. We won 34-13. Brooklyn played most of the game but she really wasn’t feeling good. She has another upper respiratory infection and her back hurt non-stop in her left kidney area. No telling what she’s done. She thinks she pulled a muscle. She made seven points and had tons of rebounds and assists but her pain was obvious. Plus the stress of knowing about Trek’s cancer didn’t help her at all. We were proud of her willingness to hang in there under those circumstances. Kristen invited us to dinner after the game. We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant - yum. Unfortunately, the road was closed between us and our destination. There was a terrible accident involving a car and an Amish horse and buggy. The buggy occupants were transported to different hospitals. The poor horse died in the accident. Too many careless drivers on our roads these days. We had a bag of stuff Parker left in WV so we dropped it off and brought home several meals for the week. We watched the fourth quarter of the Raven’s game with my son and his family. Willow snuggled with Granddad. Raven was close by but there was no room for her. So I got to spend time with all three families (except Skylar and Lauren’s crew) today. What a grand homecoming! I hope your day had some happy moments. Stay safe. Thanks for dropping by. “If you’re hurt, don’t let pain stand in your way. You can still reach your goals if you love what you do.” – Nick Symmonds
