Red alert-Storm Eowyn
Image: ‘Smiley” drawing found on original 1960s plaster under wallpaper today.
We were having a quiet cup of tea in the kitchen this afternoon when a loud buzzing noise erupted . It was Alexa. I check my phone.
It’s a red alert from our insurance company advising us what to do and how to lodge a claim for damages as we prepare
for the worst storm in Central Scotland for 13 years.
So , we have hunkered down:
· All furniture has been removed from the balcony.
· Bird feeders and chairs on the patio have been turned upside down to prevent damage.
· We've checked our store of candles, matches and torches.
· All computers and phones are fully charged.
A Glimpse into the Past
In the midst of these preparations, our decorator discovered this "smiley" drawing on the original plaster underneath the wallpaper, from when the house was built over 60 years ago.
This relic from the past takes us back to the Swinging Sixties, an era brimming with optimism and change. The world was indeed a very different place then, with a spirit of hope and progress pervasive in the air.
Reflections on Today's Challenges
Sadly, the same cannot be said about today. It is difficult not to feel nervous and pessimistic about our future, with issues like global warming and the race to develop artificial intelligence presenting unknown consequences.
