Knowing..
..about our country's history in relation to our Indigenous peoples is essential; but it doesn't make for easy reading.
The Knowing, is our next book club selection. I am only partway through it; there is just so much to digest and ponder.
As one reviewer said.."This is about a Canada that you do not know, but one we all must confront". It is our history presented through the lens of indigenous experience and it is not pretty. It is not the history that folks my age were taught in school. Broken treaties, residential schools, missing family members.
The book describes the author's search for information about her missing family members, especially her great, great grandmother Annie Carpenter, and "that story of one woman gone missing becomes the story of all the children who did not come home."
It is a tough read and methinks I just might have to choose a lighter, more uplifting book to read along with it.
On lighter note...I tried to get artsy with a dying tulip but the photo just didn't measure up to those of Mrs HCB or Maureen 6002..but I tried (see extra) and oh yes, I actually cooked something....easy peasy beef stew! (for those who do not believe me, there is proof in the other extra)
